Fitness YouTubers covered in this post:

Introduction

At the time of this blog post, the world is facing the challenge of the novel COVID-19 Coronavirus pandemic. The respiratory virus ranges from mild illness to critical illness, perhaps needing a ventilator. Hospital resources are limited, so the governments around the world have focused on preventing people from getting infected, from physical distancing to quarantine. Places, where people have congregated for food and entertainment, are shut down. Gyms have also been shut down.

While in quarantine or under stay-at-home orders during the pandemic, some fitness YouTubers have been adding home workout videos where people would be able to start training or continuing an exercise routine with minimal equipment or bodyweight.

Of course, home workouts on YouTube are not a new occurrence, there have been YouTubers that have many videos devoted to exercises a person could do at home or while on travel. I have been following a few of them–Fraser Wilson from Melbourne, Australia; Rodrigo Romeh from Mexico; and three from the United Kingdom–Joe Wicks (aka the Body Coach), Alex Crockford, and Rowan Row.

I found a another fitness YouTuber while preparing this blog post: Tom Daley, a well-known Olympic-level diver from the United Kingdom. These YouTubers have had exercise videos where you could follow along with them as if they were your coach. Also, you can tailor the exercises according to your personal ability.

In general, the workouts are between 10-20 minutes.

Fraser Wilson

Note: I may earn a commission (with no cost to you) through some of the links in this post.

Fraser Wilson, 23, is a fitness YouTuber who lives in Melbourne, Australia. (Birthday–November 12 (Scorpio).) Many of his follow-along videos focus on abs or bodyweight high-intensity interval training (HIIT). Fraser did an interview with the website, Bulk Hackers, in March 2020.

At his website, Fraser provides a bit of his background.

Hi, I’m Fraser. When I first started training in the gym, I was an insecure 17-year-old.

The gym was the perfect stress relief, no matter what was going on in my life, a 1-2 hour session was like a meditation for me. I’d come out feeling refreshed, renewed and confident.

My love of fitness grew from there. I’ve been able to build a platform through social media to share my passion with the world. I’ve also been fortunate enough to sign with one of the largest companies in the fitness industry.

In 2017, Photographer Jake O’Donnell did a quick-answer interview with Fraser to know more about him. This video was posted on YouTube.

In terms of workout gear, in recent videos, Fraser mostly wears Gymshark with Nike sneakers. He seems to be a fan of bold colors in his workout clothing (seen more in pre-Gymshark videos).

(I have been noticing that Fraser has been adding colors back in his workout gear (great plan).)

Fraser has an app that he uses with his online personal training clients. The developer of the app is MacroActive Limited. (Side note: Some of Fraser’s photos are by Jake O’Donnell, who has taken photos for UK-based Box Menswear.)

Fraser’s Social Media

YouTube

On Fraser’s YouTube channel there are a variety of videos, many fitness video logs, which feature workouts, and then follow-along workouts, which viewers can do at home. Based on the high number of views, these videos appear to be extremely popular. I have been following the HIIT cardio workouts for some time. It feels like you have a trainer with you when you do the follow-along workouts.

I typically have done one of his 10-minute home workouts. When I have more time, I challenge myself with the 20-minute workout. While I have to adapt to an easier version of some of the exercises, push-ups on the knees, for example, I feel that am improving over time.

Fraser added a video explaining how people new to training can could get lean for summer from home.

Rodrigo Romeh

Rodrigo Romeh’s social media | Website| Instagram | YouTube |

Rodrigo Romeh was a fitness YouTuber and competed in physique competitions. Rodrigo lives in Mexico. Rodrigo has had appearances on Spanish-language TV in the United States and seems to have moved on to other opportunities.

During the time that he was preparing for physique competitions, Rodrigo made home workouts. This home workout lasts 30 minutes. After long commutes (traveling 40 miles for work by commuter train and city bus), I would do this workout after I came home.

Joe Wicks aka The Body Coach

Joe Wicks’ social media | website | Instagram | YouTube |

Joe Wicks, 33, from the United Kingdom, is a husband and father as well as an Instagram personality, book author and the owner of The Body Coach. His birthday is 21-September (Virgo).

On YouTube, Joe has numerous HIIT cardio routines for all levels of exercisers. While commuting for a full-time job, time was very short, but I wanted to get a workout in. It is very easy for me, after a long day at work, to feel a workout is just another layer of work. But I could not argue with 10-20 minutes for a workout.

Just bodyweight was challenging for me, but I have seen small yet encouraging improvements after sticking with the workouts consistently.

I was doing a low-impact hotel workout. Although the exercises were low-impact, the workout still was a challenge.

During the time of the COVID-19 pandemic quarantines in many countries, Joe added online physical education classes for children.

Tom Daley

Tom Daley’s social media: | YouTube | Instagram | Facebook | Twitter |

Tom Daley, 25, is an Olympic-level diver for the United Kingdom as well as a book author. Tom’s birthday is on 21-May (Gemini). Tom is sponsored by athletic fitness brand Adidas.

Tom, on his YouTube page, created some workouts that people could follow during stay-at-home orders because of the pandemic. (Tom has created workout videos previously as well.) In a separate, stay-at-home-related video, Tom helps his husband bake a cobbler.

Tom’s home workouts are based on HIIT cardio, where you exercise for 40 seconds and rest for 20 seconds

In the first home workout, Tom demonstrates five exercises that are repeated in two circuits:

  • RFE split squats
  • Squat jump walkouts
  • Sumo squat pulses
  • Alternating v sits

In the second home workout, Tom demonstrates five exercises, repeated in two circuits:

  • Lunges
  • Speedskaters
  • Press-up rotations
  • Plank side taps
  • Triceps dips

In the third workout video, Tom demonstrated a workout focused on the abdominal muscles (aka the six-pack). In this workout, there are six exercises:

  • Ab crunches
  • Toe touches
  • Side v sites
  • Back extensions
  • Bicycles
  • Mountain climbers

In a fourth workout video, Tom demonstrates five exercises, repeated in two circuits:

  • Press-ups narrow
  • Triceps dips
  • Press-ups wide
  • Plank shoulder taps
  • Press-up hold to leg lifts

Alex Crockford

Alex Crockford’s social media: Website | Instagram | Youtube | Facebook | Twitter |

Alex Crockford, 29, lives in the United Kingdom and is the owner of #CrockFit, an online training business, and a fitness model.

In 2015, he gave away free hugs in Trafalgar Square in London. In 2021, Mens Health UK published an article about the result from his running a 5K daily.

At the time of this post, he is sponsored by UnderArmour. He traveled to downtown Baltimore, in the Inner Harbor area, to attend a conference at UnderArmour headquarters. (I at one time had a job in Inner Harbor East, near the waterfront.)

His birthday is on 15-June (Gemini).

Before the Coronavirus pandemic, Alex posted follow-along home-based bodyweight workouts. Some of these workouts are on his #CrockFit app on the HomeFit program.

The #CrockFitapp is a custom-made app developed by Calcey Technologies. Craig E. Ryder wrote an article about Alex and how Alex discovered Calcey Technologies in 2018.

With the global lockdown to prevent the spread of COVID-19, gyms were closed, raising the interest of home-based workouts that a person could do without much equipment. (Alex has prepared videos for people with kettlebells or other weights.)

While Alex is a personable guy, his bodyweight workouts are intense. I remember doing one follow-along HIIT workout and I was going through the circuits. Alex described the workout up front. What he calls a warm-up session, feels like a workout (which he admits in his exercise commentary). I was feeling tired by the end and was ready to stop. Then, Alex reminded his viewers that there was still a leg circuit (by then I forgot about the final leg workout) . I still remember feeling shocked. (lol)

I favor follow-along workout videos as it feels like you have a trainer doing the exercises with you and you get an implicit challenge to do your personal best and not to quit and turn off the video.

Alex helpfully offers alternatives to suit your current physical abilities. If you are interested in these workouts, you are interested in self-improvement. So, you will get the challenge you need.

In addition, Alex has a blog where he provides fitness tips and recipes. In one blog post, he provided tips on getting the most from home-based workouts.

I will post some of the more-recent home-workout-related posts below.

Fitness Model

Rowan Row, 31, is a fashion blogger and YouTuber who has a background as a runner and fitness model. Rowan lives in the United Kingdom. Rowan’s birthday is 17 February (Aquarius).

I first saw Rowan while he was a fitness model in 2013. Rowan offers personal training e-book programs at his website.

Fashion Blogger

Rowan left competitive fitness modeling to do fashion and lifestyle blogging. Rowan still maintains his gym training.

Conclusion

The reason for the increased variety of home workouts comes as a result of a serious risk to public health. Nevertheless, I have found them to be useful for me to start as a beginner. My goal is to become able to handle my own bodyweight and with some weighted exercises.

Are there any favorite home workouts that you enjoy? Perhaps you found some new possibilities in this post. Let me know in the comments.

5 Leggings, 2 Track Pants Men Will Love

Men’s Leggings, Joggers, and Track Pants: A Review of the Popular Slim-Fit Clothing

Introduction: General Men’s Fashion Observation

The blog post will provide you with information as you consider leggings, joggers, or track pants to your wardrobe. I will provide a description of each style, describe where guys have been wearing the clothes, and then I will provide a short review of the 5 brands I found while doing research for examples for this blog post.

In viewing social media pages, I see many of the influencers rocking their street style and gym wear with leggings. In my research, I even found that leggings and tailored sweatpants style have reached the office-dress level, for example, the Mack Weldon Radius Pant.

In my informal observation of men’s fashion selections where I live, the Washington, DC, metropolitan area, the choice leans toward slim-fit pants for the office and slim-fit, tailored sweatpants/track pants. I think that the track pant slim-fit look is neater and more adaptable with the pocket.

I get full use of my pockets with traditional pants. I use them for my wallet, keys, notes. As a result, would tend not to favor leggings, which do not have pockets. Because of the slim-fit nature of the pants, I would be selective about the things I carried so that the nice lines would not be broken.

What are Men’s Leggings Called

You may have found this blog searching for men’s leggings. You have found the right spot. Men’s leggings, sometimes referred to as “meggings” or compression pants, have been popular. The leggings typically do not have pockets, making them have an athletic purpose and use.

Joggers and Track Pants

While men’s leggings typically do not have pockets, there is a version of slim-fit, body-hugging pants that do have pockets, the jogger or the track pant. These pants typically have a related top that can be worn with them.

One Athletic track pant, Firestone II

The brand has another slim-fitting, legging offering, the Firestone II pant, https://oneathletic.com/collections/sale/products/firestone-ii-pant-black?_pos=1&_sid=02cb747e2&_ss=r&variant=31260395929677. The brand places the pant in its gym joggers category. For the fabric composition, the website mentions “poly pant,” which may mean the pant is made from polyester, similar to the other leggings.

As the Firestone pant has pockets, it can be worn in and out of the gym. If you are interested there is a top that goes with the pant, the Firestone II hoodie.

Reebok Speedwick Knit track pants

Website:  https://www.reebok.com/us/speedwick-knit-track-pants/DY8036.html

Reebok has a track pant called the Speedwick Knit track pants. The track pants have pockets. The fabric composition is 100 percent polyester tricot. (If interested, see a blog post at Pinecrest Fabrics about tricot fabric. Essentially, the fabric is durable and can be worn daily.)

Box Menswear Performance Fitted Joggers

Website: https://www.boxmenswear.com/collections/loungewear/products/lightweight-performance-fitted-joggers-black

(Added 18-January-2020)

Box Menswear has a fitted jogger in black and stone. These joggers have pockets as well. The fabric composition is 100 percent polyester. The joggers appear to have a slim fit but there is a little more room than a body-hugging compression-style pants.

Tailored Sweatpants

While researching for this blog post, I found that there is another style of pant that is just about the joggers and track pants, the slim-fit sweatpants. I consider this more in the sweatpant category, so I did not cover them in this blog post. An example is the Vanquish Fitness Elevate tapered sweatpants. It appears to have been an exceptionally popular item, as it is available only in the extra-large size at the time this blog post was written (January 2020).

Jeans that Look like Track Pants

Rufskin Slick jeans

Another interesting option is slim-fitting, track-pant-like jeans. One example that I found is from Rufskin, the Slick stretch denim jeans. The fabric composition is 98 percent cotton and 2 percent Spandex. The appearance appears to be a leveled-up track pant. Like the track pants, the brand has a top that can fit with the jeans, the Trooper shirt.

Where are Men’s Leggings Worn

Leggings are athletic clothing, but men have been wearing them while doing other activities–resting at home, running errands, traveling, yoga, running, and even more-intimate moments. I will discuss men’s leggings for these purposes in the blog post below. (For legging-style pants with pockets, see the discussion of track pants above.)

Review of 5 Brands of Men’s Leggings

As there is a wide variety of activities that men can wear leggings, there are also several brands that have leggings for sale. I will review 5 below.

1 Kapow Meggings Originals

Website: https://kapowmeggings.com/collections/meggings

According to the product description for Kapow Meggings originals range, the brand’s leggings are designed to fit like a second skin. The leggings are designed with high stretch polyester and elastane. The leggings could be used for a number of activities: yoga, gym, festivals, running, accentuating one’s street style.

The company uses bold colors to make the wearer stand out and be noticed.

2 Box Menswear Total Comfort Lounge Leggings

Website:  https://us.boxmenswear.com/collections/nplbfcm69meshv1p/products/mens-grey-sport-leggings

The Box Menswear leggings appear to be designed more for athletic wear (no pockets), though some of the photos I have seen on social media, buyers are wearing them for lounge activity. Of course, you could pair them with shorts or under pants (with pockets) to wear running errands, and so on.

The product description states that the fabric composition of the brand’s leggings is 95 percent bamboo cotton and 5 percent Spandex.

Comment: The brand’s bed shorts, which I own, has a fabric composition of 100 percent bamboo cotton. The fabric is exceptionally soft and comfortable.

Models Rovin Delgado and Brian, wearing Box Menswear lounge leggings.

Box Menswear leggings, a popular item on the website, are available in grey and white. (See another blog post of this item.)

Models Kyle Hynick and Mojib, wearing Box Menswear lounge leggings.

3 Adidas Saturday long tights

Website:  https://www.adidas.com/us/saturday-long-tights/CY5797.html

The Adidas Saturday Long Tights, are designed for running. A more fashion-conservative black, the Adidas leggings are ventilated to keep the wearer comfortable and dry.

The Adidas leggings are made of 79% recycled polyester, 21% elastane interlock.

4 Nike Pro men’s tights

Website:  https://www.nike.com/t/pro-mens-tights-5qtjmK/BV5641-451

The Nike Pro leggings are made for athletic activities but it seems that the leggings would fit well with just doing everyday duties as well.

The leggings fabric composition is body: 90 percent-93 percent polyester/7-10 percent spandex and mesh: 92 percent polyester/8 percent spandex.

The Nike Pro leggings are available in a variety of colors.

5 One Athletic MTech run leggings

Website: https://oneathletic.com/collections/leggings/products/mtech-run-legging-black?variant=31260432760909

One Athletic’s Mtech run legging is another legging made for runners (no pockets). I could not find information about the leggings’ fabric composition on their website.

+1 6 Rise active dry compression pants

Since the first publication of this post, I have found additional leggings to add to the post.

Website: https://www.risestore.com/collections/men-bottoms-shorts/products/active-dry-compression-bottoms-grey.

According to the product description, the active dry compression pants are meant to have have a skin-tight fit to support weight lifting, running or other athletic activity.

The fabric composition is 55 percent Nylon, 38 percent polyester, and 7 percent Spandex.

Conclusion

I have found that the leggings and track pants categories to be fairly interesting. The slim-fit pants style has been popular and I was surprised to find a wide variety of styles available.

I am interested in learning about my readers’ likes and dislikes in leggings as well as men’s fashion generally.

Have you found an item that you liked in the blog post? Perhaps your go-to slim-fit pants style was not covered in the post? Please leave me a comment below or email me at info at menswearnews.com.
