I first saw photos of Derek shortly after election day in 2016. The photographer is Blake Eiermann.

I found the photos to be quite stunning and interesting. The photos were headshots but Derek’s face had red, white, and blue paint.

Derek was a gardener on the Ellen show in 2014. He moved from Tennessee from Los Angeles, California, in 2016.

Derek is also a photographer.

Derek is one of the models featured in a photo book “Summer House” by Austin, Texas, Photographer Carlos “Trey” Salazar.

Also, I remember a compelling story that Derek shared on his Instagram page. Derek’s brother, Kevin, passed away as a result of a car accident with a drunk driver.

(Derek’s mom, Tiki Finlayson, wrote a book “Choices,” about her observations about what had happened and how she handled moving forward.)
