Briefcases (2024): Style Meets Functionality

Briefcases (2024): Style Meets Functionality

Introduction: Need to replace old Land’s End briefcase

Currently, I use a Land’s End cloth briefcase that I bought in the early 2000s. It was made in Wisconsin. I used it for college, grad school, and my jobs. It is old and breaking apart. I am going into the office and I need something more stylish and useful.

I mostly carry paper files as well as spare glasses, some candy, hand sanitizer, a comb, metro fare card. Over the years, there have been times I found myself in need of something that I did not have. The resolution of the problem involved adding the thing I needed to the bag. One time, I had to walk in the rain because I forgot my umbrella. So, after that, I packed an umbrella.

The Land’s End bag has room for many paper files and can expand. At times, I carry a laptop. So, I would like a replacement that has the same features. Unfortunately, it is a tall order.

After a search online, many briefcases have room for a laptop, some accessories, but not much more. Some brands are nice but have high prices. I am afraid to have something over $300 because I take the subway and sometimes stop by a coffee shop on my trips through the city.

New briefcase: Alto briefcase.

Oak and Rove

During my search for a new business briefcase, I found the Oak and Rove brand. It sells the Alto briefcase, which is made using nylon and leather.

The black color was out of stock, so I joined the wait list. I then received an email with a good price offer. So, I bought one because my Lands End bag, while great, is looking really bad.

The briefcase arrived. I will have my first commute with it soon.

Satchel and Page Diplomat

I like some of the leather bags, but it rains occasionally where I live. The Satchel and Page warranty and care page states that its bags can be used in rainy climates.

Any tips, advice?

Have any readers bought any of the briefcases listed? Please let me know of your experience. If you know of a good brand that could help me, please let me know.

The Menswear Newsletter: Introduction

Welcome to the Menswear Newsletter. I am Andre, and my work experience has nothing to do with fashion. But I have gained casually researched for clothes on the Internet that I bought for myself. My wardrobe needs a refresh, so I am searching for clothes to buy.

I started my career in print journalism, working at a newsletter publication, with a focus on law.  Print media transitioned to the Internet during my career. Then text-based journalism fell into a crisis, with the loss of many jobs. I ultimately had to leave journalism to work elsewhere but I loved the writing process and being able to present information to readers.

While I maintained my writing for personal pursuits, I always wanted to return to newsletter-style writing.

In mid-2019, I started doing part-time social media work for a United Kingdom-based e-commerce company, Box Menswear. A lot of the work is interesting, as I have to learn and execute on social media posting and social media marketing tasks–search engine optimization, social media platforms, creating GIFs, and other things. (Note: This blog is my own work.)

The result is that I can combine my personal search for new men’s clothing and to continue my learning of social media-related subjects.

My thought is that I would begin with some subjects I have interest in, and then see what happens.

I am happy to start, and I hope that my writings bring some value to you.
